Description: EVS provided electrical, civil and structural engineering services on this project. The project is on Tribal (Moapa River Band of Paiutes) land and consisted of a utility scale photovoltaic plant (275 MW DC / 200 MW AC) utilizing Canadian Solar panels and SMA inverter stations, along with a DC Coupled Lithium-Ion Energy Storage System (75 MWAC / 375 MWh) utilizing Powin Centipede Storage and SMA DC-DC converters. The project’s design was space efficient with the Powin Centipede, SMA DC-DC Converters and SMA PV Inverter all on the shoulder of the site road. This required very complex conduit and underground conduit and cable routing. Studies value engineering analyzed the plant by excluding the trench ground conductors in the grounding studies. Civil design included diverting offsite runoff with diversion channels and interruption of potential channelized flow through the array through use of gravel filter berms.
Description: EVS provided electrical engineering services for this project. A combination of very steep slopes and a large presence of wetlands, streams, ponds, and other water features made collaboration between the electrical and the civil teams very crucial for the successful site layout design. The medium voltage feeder design was challenging due to the size of the site, the substation location, and the numerous site constraints. The project has many directional bores due to conductors crossing roads, gas lines, water lines and water features. A new approach of landing conductors onto the skid was deployed and the EVS studies team provided support to ensure a constructible design.
